This custom Santa Cruz D Model pairs an old-growth Adirondack spruce top with Indian rosewood back and sides for a dreadnought with tremendous headroom, volume and harmonic richness. Santa Cruz built it with Adirondack bracing set in hot hide glue over an Advanced X pattern, and added a Tony Rice style enlarged soundhole and pickguard to push its projection even further. The appointments are a step up from the standard model, with a blue paua rosette, herringbone top purfling, 45-style fingerboard inlays, an abalone SCGC peghead logo, a vintage tinted top and gold Waverly tuners. Handcrafted in Santa Cruz, California, it is a commanding flatpicking dreadnought with the looks to match.
